Yami Gautam to star in film based on Shah Bano case

The film dramatises the case of Shah Bano, who petitioned the Supreme Court for maintenance under Section 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code after being divorced via triple talaq by her husband, Mohd. Ahmed Khan. He contested her claim, citing Muslim Personal Law, which requires maintenance only during the ‘iddat’ period. The seven-year legal battle culminated in April 1985, when the Supreme Court ruled in favour of Shah Bano. It marks as a significant moment in India’s legal and social history.

The film is being produced by Junglee Pictures in collaboration with Vishal Gurnani and Juhi Parekh Mehta of Insomnia Media. The project is directed by Suparn Varma, celebrated for his work on The Family Man Season 2 and more. Reshu Nath, whose credits include Bose: Dead or Alive and Broken but Beautiful, has written the script. With such a talented team, this film promises to bring the pivotal Shah Bano case to life.

Yami Gautam expressed her enthusiasm for returning to work with such a meaningful role. On the work front, the actress is also set to appear alongside Pratik Gandhi in the romantic comedy Dhoom Dhaam. Fans are eagerly awaiting her portrayal of Shah Bano, a story that remains as relevant today as it was four decades ago.
